Mad Men
AMC site Mad Men "1960s Handbook" |
This AMC series has as its backdrop a Madison Avenue
Advertising agency. The first season takes place in about
1959-60, and the last episode mentions the Kennedy
presidential campaign. The second season opens
in 1962. Even the still pix on the website depict the clothes and body language (of both men and women) of the time. Think about what sort of underpinnings must have been required to make women's bosoms and behinds look the way they do! The series depicts the office workplace of the Kennedy era (and into the early seventies) better than anything else I know of. Also explored- upper middle-class housewife angst, Catholic working class values, men's coping with the beginning of the women's movement. |
