Ch 20 "Whose Government? Politics, Populists, and
Progressives 1880-1917 Respond to the Chapter Review Questions at the end of the chapter, and add to them your response: explain the approaches to racism as proposed by Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. How might their backgrounds account for their differences? In all responses, supply SHI for your thoughtful exploration of the topics. For Thursday: Reading: - The Progressives (See Readings tab) ALSO Become familiar with the readings at the end of the AMSCO chapter. Then, associate the images (see right-hand column) to one or more of the readings. Bring this information to class on Thursday for a discussion to help prepare for your essay. Ch 21- Henretta - An Emerging World Power 1877-1918 (reading quiz Monday) Respond to ALL "CHAPTER REVIEW questions at the end of the Henretta chapter (in writing.) YOur responses will demonstrate your thoughtful consideration of the question and will include SHI to support your reasoning. For Wednesday: Readings - Section on Imperialism (Go to READINGS tab) Make margin notes to answer the questions at the beginning of each reading. Highlight, make notes on questions you have. For WEDNESDAY: Prepare to (orally) explain any of the vocabulary words at the end of the AMSCO chapter*. You should be able to explain how/why the term is significant to the undestanding of the history of US Imperialism/foreign policy. You will be called upon to stand and deliver in class! *AMSCO Chapter 20 For FRIDAY: Be sure to bring your AMSCO book to class AND a copy of the Imperialism Readings ("Chapter 20") SKILLS 11 - **Read the Summary, pp 114-115; Work on "ideas for discussion" (p 115) (BTW, see SKILLS ch 8 for Q1- or your reading notes, or AMSCO.) each prompt will be identified identified by your use of complete sentences in your response. ** Read the "historical thinking skill" instruction and practice on p 119. Chapter 22 - Wrestling with Modernity 1918-1929 Thursday: Prepare for the quiz. In class on Thursday: Take the quiz. (10 minutes, including getting settled, take quiz, hand in.) Materials provided in class -- WORK WITH AT LEAST One, but no more than 3 other people (your choice of people) Packet one is from the SKILLS chapter; 1. do all exercises! (15 minutes, max: finish at home Packet 2 is from AMSCO - 2. Read and annotate the Documents. 3. Discuss questions 1, 2, and 3 (p 491)- (jot down main points of the discussion) - 10 minutes, max! 4. Prepare a thesis paragraph (LPR & ACID) and an outline (topic sentence plus several instances of SHI for each paragraph): (finish for homework) a.
