Respond to the following questions in writing and bring to class: 1. The textbook makes the claim that "the Ku Klux Klan's popularity decline[d]" (p403). What evidence is in the textbook to support this claim? 2. By the mid-twenties, the Klan had expanded its circle of hatred to include others in addition to African Americans. Describe this expanded circle; why were different groups targeted geographically? 3. What reasons might there have been for the Klan to be so popular in places like Indiana? (you may want to look at a map of the US to see if there are clues about "why Indiana?") 4. The KKK still exists today. What are its stated goals?
